Courses for Post-Master’s Learning Disabilities Teacher/Consultant Certification

As of Spring 2018, TCNJ is suspending admission to Post-Master’s LDTC program.

This program is for experienced teachers who already hold a master’s degree in special education or a related field and leads to recommendation for certification as a learning disabilities teacher/consultant, the educational specialist on the child study team, mandated by the state of New Jersey.

Typical Course Sequence

SPED 624/Advanced Study of Learning Disabilities, 3 s.h.
SPED 680/Seminar and Practicum on Diagnostic Treatment, 3 s.h.
SPED 681/Seminar and Practicum on Remediation Techniques, 3 s.h.
SPED 682/Externship in LDTC, 3 s.h.
Electives (1) 3 s.h.

Total: 15 semester hours; plus up to 12 in prerequisites


Program-Specific Prerequisites

Up to 12 credits of graduate-level coursework in the following four areas:

  • Tests and measurements (EPSY 643)
  • Psychology of learning or adolescent development (EPSY 513 or EPSY 524)
  • Physiological bases of learning (SPED 626)
  • Foundations of education (EDFN 520)

If candidates have not already taken applicable graduate courses in the 4 areas listed above, the courses must be taken as part of the post-master’s program.
