FAQs about the SLPI Assessment

FAQs about the SLPI Assessment

1. When should I take the SLPI?

Students may take the SLPI at any time. Most students will want to take the test after completing ASL 101, 102, 103 and DHH 350 & 423.

2. What happens if I do not achieve the minimum required score?

The SLPI may be taken an unlimited number of times.

3. Is the SLPI part of my course of study at TCNJ?

The SLPI is required by NJ certification, not by the College. Only those teacher candidates seeking employment is a sign language communication classroom must take the test. Teacher candidates seeking the state endorsement as a Teacher of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing for Oral/Aural Communication are not required to take the test.

4. Where do I take the test?

Testing centers are listed on the RIT website.
